About Me

Having enjoyed a 44 year career in social work, working with children and families in a variety of roles, I decided 6 years ago to retrain as a psychotherapist. This was with a view to helping and empowering people on an individual basis.

I apply my years of experience and transferable skills to benefit my clients.
I enjoy empowering others and have experience of this, having been a practice educator for social work students over the last 30 years.

I am married and have four adult children and eight grandchildren so I have experienced all the trials, tribulations and joys of raising a family.
After the birth of my fourth baby, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune condition. This has given me an insight into the challenges of living with a disability.

I volunteered for 4 years with a cancer therapy centre. I have also volunteered as a counsellor in a secondary school. Alongside this, I volunteered for Aspire, working with clients referred by Turning Point; a charity supporting people overcoming addictions.

My Approach

I understand that life has a way of presenting us with challenges, some have built up over time and others take us by surprise. Often we manage by using the support of  family and friends but sometimes, when we feel overwhelmed, we don't want to burden our loved ones.
I believe that this is when we need someone who is not emotionally attached  to walk alongside us as we navigate these challenging times.
I am an integrative psychotherapist but Person Centred Therapy is core. However, I adapt my approach according to the needs of my client.

My Qualifications

I have gained an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
and a Professional Diploma in Psyschotherpeutic counselling.
I am a member of the National Counselling Society and the National Hypnotherapy Society.
I have an Enhanced DBS and a current Advanced Safeguarding Qualification.

My Values and Ethics

I follow the National Counselling Society's Code of Ethics:

I work towards the good of clients and do no harm.

I am trustworthy and responsible.

I have respect for the dignity and rights of my clients.

I believe in justice.

I have integrity and self-responsibility.
